Jay Giannone & Friends

There's nothing like being one of the boys. For most of us, if we're lucky, we get one true best friend, a friend you can go to about any problem or count on to hit a night out on the town. Fortunately, Jay Giannone and all his boys lived an entertaining life growing up in the Old Harbor Projects of South Boston. A lifestyle that was entertaining enough to be pitched and produced into one of the most successful series on HBO, lasting eight seasons an being nominated for several awards. Though he made only a few cameos in the hit series, there's no doubt about how much of an affect Jay had on this show because not only did he have input on how it was perceived, he LIVED it.

It humbles us to have one of the men that inspired the HBO classic Entourage, a ground breaking show that we absolutely love, rocking our brand - And rocking it with class.

We had an opportunity to get on the horn with Jay and from the moment "hellos" were exchanged, you could tell right away what kind of dude we were dealing with. Jay has established himself in the Hollywood realm as an Actor, Writer, Producer and Director while maintaining an incredible level of humbleness and thankfulness. He talked about everything from getting into mischievous situations as a youngster growing up in "Southie" to proudly watching his son play little league baseball. Jay's been in show business since 1995 and has seen it all from modeling for companies like Converse and  J-Crew to touring with Mark Whalberg and the One Love Crew as a rapper.

These days, Giannone still portrays characters for TV and Movies and can most recently be seen in a movie called "The Iceman", a story about a professional contract killer as well as blockbusters like "The Departed" and "Gone Baby Gone".

There's one thing we can all take away from guys like this…
We have a lot to be thankful for in this world so work your tail off to get what you deserve and never forget your friends.

Hocus Pocus in Salem, Massachusetts

There's nothing like checking out the Salem Witch Museum with Halloween only a few days away. Buried under four hundred years of witchcraft are the remains of dungeons, creepy and eerily cold, that used to house and torture the accused.

It was pretty amazing to find out that there was a law called the "Spectral Evidence", which allowed the notion that the possibilities that the devil and his minions were powerful enough to send their spirits, or specters, to pure and religious people. Spectral Evidence was not a deciding factor in England for sentencing, but was recognized as evidence. However, in New England, over a hundred people were put to death as "witches". Town members could accuse each other of having the evil spirit and automatically be put on trial during these absolutely crazy times. Fast forward to today, and you will still see graveyards in an old town once ashamed of its past that it currently embraces with theater reenactments and tours.

Check out Wass as he rocks the "Eek" and looks for some witches in Salem!

The Archives - Las Olas

The goal in running a business is to put all the energy you have into pushing your endeavors to the max and seeing the positive results from your fan base.  We started out 4 years ago with a fun idea and no long term goals.  Fast forward to the present and we couldn't be further from that initial mindset.  Let's run this town and run it with friends.

There's nothing like finding other startups that have similar aspirations as you.  I was introduced to another young entrepreneur that was starting a sneaker boutique with a NY vibe.  That's all I needed to know right there that made me wanna know more.  Long story short, Brad Minto - Co-founder of The Archives on Las Olas, is doing big things and we're proud to have a business partnership with them.  You can find the most stylish shoes, hats, chains, glasses and apparel (Bubucheek) in his shop, located across the street from Rocco's Taco.  They also throw parties at the store, having an area near the front designated solely for a DJ to be able to set up his/hers 1's and 2's.  Check out their Facebook page and be sure to hit them and us up if you're gonna frequent the South Florida area.

Open Up & Bleed

Had a chance to check out the Open Up & Bleed Art Show and the Joey Pepper Signature Clothing Launch Party at Orchard Skate Shop in Allston, MA the other night. Such a fun event! Ton of people, lots of beer and some really cool art for the mature audience :)

It's great to see other local brands rising up and making a name for themselves. As a company, we're always inspired by what others are doing, their growing pains as a company, how they got to where they are and the vision of their company's future. Some great things can come from seeing others at work!

Week in Review - Boston's Original Art & Indie Design Market

Preppin' for the SOWA event June 3. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Gotta make sure we are organized and ready to rock. Planning for these things can always be difficult 'cuz you want to make sure you don't forget your shirts :)

According to the rules of SOWA, we need to secure our tent. We don't want our tent blowing away or we'll get kicked out and never invited back. Sounds like we should probably put our focus and concern into that. Forget about presenting our creative threads to the universe. Sh*t. I don't want our tent blowing away and doing front flips through the entire crowd!

You play how you look! We need to dress this 10 x 10 up! Well, maybe a few tables with some black table cloth will do the trick. Rise and Shine! Set up is at 7am on Sunday morning and market opens at 10am to the future Bubucheek lovers ! Don't be late suckas!

Bubucheek will be giving away some "Goodies" for people passing through the Bubu tent. We will have discount codes for future orders and plenty of threads to rummage through! Not to mention our iPad for browsing the LookBook and up and coming designs!

So clear your schedule. It's Sunday Funday after all in Cheekville, Boston. Bring a friend or an alien or a mongoose who wears size small in Heart Cheeks and come out and have some fun!

PUMP.

Who is Bubucheek?

We often get asked what does bubucheek mean? That got us thinking…instead of referring everyone to our UrbanDictionary® definition, we should come up with a clever way to describe the company, it's history and what bubucheek means — the word and the company. By definition…

bubu•cheek \bübü-'chēk\
noun
1: a northeast slang for a good looking girl.
Examples: "That girl is bubu!" or "That's a good lookin'cheek!"
Origin: A clothing line founded in 2008 by 3 guys who love fashion, creative graphics and sex appeal.
Synonyms: comfortable. confident, bold, sexy.

Why does bubu•cheek even exist?

In 2008, when we founded Bubucheek Clothing we thought we would make a few designs, then sell out to a big department store and be livin' large. Pipe dream, right? That stuff doesn't even happen. Not to 3 hard-working guys us. Not that quick. We were definitely stuck in dreamland for the first 2 years (Raptor-Style).

9 limited edition runs, 15+ designs, and numerous 3-way conference calls later we realized that this stuff takes hard work, dedication and a ton of help from generous people (like YOU).

Introducing the Board of Brainstorming

It is not about making a quick buck, nor selling out to a large company. It is about surrounding yourself with great people. Supportive people. Influential people. People you look up to (again, we're talking about YOU). So, we are putting together our list of all the wonderful people who have helped shape the company. We are calling this list the "Board of Brainstorming". Look for it on the website soon.

In the words of the Alabama Shakes, "you've got to hold on":

Our brand is our personality

We create things that we love, things that we are passionate about and things we enjoy looking at. It's contagious. We want others to feel the same love and passion that we feel from the designs we create. We don't just throw something together and call it a shirt…there is serious work involved. And the reward for us is seeing that on YOU. We like when our customers say,"That's bubu!" when they see the designs…and then they Pinterest, Tweet or Like that sh*t! Like we said, it's contagious. A visual virus.

Sketchbooks and sketches, thoughts and more thoughts.

Care

We CARE about CARING, that's just how much we CARE.  Our product packaging was, how-do-you-say, crap in fashion lingo. Crap? Yeah, it was Crap! So, we are for the next few weeks/months or however long it takes, overhauling how we package and send our original designs to you with our #1 goal of putting more care into it because we know that is your first impression (well, second after the website) of us. So you can look forward to that on your next Bubucheek tee or hoodie order.

Focus

Our focus is to showcase Bubucheek and how we pour our passion into the clothes. We want Bubucheek to be a collective, a community, a family, because it really is All About The 'Cheeks.

Stay involved, learn more and get the big deals by signing up for our exclusive newsletter now (signing up is sooo bubu :) and like our Richard "G" Giannotti says: Viva Bubu! Viva!
